Six Killed in Coalmine Explosion in Balochistan Province of Pakistan

QUETTA: At least six laborers were killed in a gas explosion in a coalmine in the Shahrag coal field area of the Harnai district of Pakistan’s Balochistan province, rescue officials said on Sunday.

According to rescue officials, at least six men were trapped in the coalmine that collapsed after the explosion in Balochistan’s Harnai district.

Levies officials said, soon after the incident, district administration officials and rescue teams rushed to the spot and started a rescue operation.

Levies officials further said that the accident occurred in the Shahrg Tarkh Tung, where coal was extracted.

Laborers belonged to Shangla

The deceased were identified as Bacha Khan, Naseeb Gul, Sarfraz, Ghani Rehman, Najeebullah, and Rehman Ullah. All of the ill-fated laborers belong to the Shangla district of Pakistan’s northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

Chief Minister of Balochistan province, Mir Quddus Bizenjo took notice of the incident and ordered a thorough investigation into the unfortunate incident.

The Harnai incident came as a grim reminder of the Orakzai coalmine blast that killed nine laborers a few days ago.
