LONDON: Sri Lankan women’s team secured their first-ever series victory over the England side with a spectacular seven-wicket win in the third T20 match in Derby on Wednesday.

Chamari Athapaththu was the star of the match as she claimed 3-21 with the ball and then made 44 runs off 28 balls to wrap up a 2-1 series victory.

England, who beat world champions Australian side in the T20 series were restricted to just 116 runs all out from 19 overs.

Sri Lankan skipper Athapaththu then took control, as she did with a fifty in leading her side to a first-ever T20 victory over the England cricket team on Saturday.

“We always talk regarding the positive things in our dressing room, never negatives and we implemented our plans – that’s why we won the series.

“We played a youngish side but that’s no excuse for defeat. We felt like we had enough on the park to be successful, but we have been a little bit off, it is fair to accept that,” England skipper Heather Knight said.
