RAWALPINDI: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an alert on Saturday, urging all relevant departments to stay on high alert in Murree, Galiyat, and surrounding regions amid snowfall forecast this weekend. It has also issued an advisory for tourists in the area. Tourists have been advised to take all necessary precautions as stormy rain and snowfall are anticipated in Murree, Galiyat, and nearby areas.
A spokesman for the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said that there is a 70 percent chance of snowfall on Sunday and a 75 percent chance of rain and snow on Monday. Weather conditions are expected to remain uncertain from February 17 to 22.
Tourists planning to visit Murree have been advised to take all necessary precautions and consider the weather conditions when planning their trip.
The Director General (DG) of PDMA, Imran Qureshi, has instructed the Murree administration to remain vigilant. Tourists have been urged to thoroughly check their vehicles before embarking on their journey and to carry necessary items in anticipation of snowfall.
In emergency situation, tourists can contact the PDMA helpline at 1129 and control room numbers of Murree district administration at 051-9269015, 051-9269016, and 051-9269018 for assistance.
Furthermore, a WhatsApp number 0336-9804229 has been provided for emergency contact. The Murree district administration has activated all relevant departments in anticipation of the forecasted snowfall, with the Meteorological Department predicting rain and snowfall for Sunday and Monday.
Thirteen tourist facilitation centers have been set up at various locations to assist and guide tourists. In emergency situation, tourists can contact the Punjab emergency service, Rescue-1122, PDMA Helpline-1129 or use the Tourism Helpline-1421 for assistance. –APP
