KABUL: Severe weather conditions including heavy snowfall, rains, and freezing temperatures have claimed the lives of sixty individuals and left 23 others injured across Afghanistan in the past three weeks, according to Mullah Janan Saeq, spokesperson for the national disaster authority.

Local media reported on Thursday, quoting Saeq’s video statement released on social media that over 1,600 houses have been either partially or destroyed. During this period more than 177,000 cattle perished due to the severe weather conditions.

The national disaster authority, in partnership with national and international organizations, has delivered food supplies, essential non-food items, and financial aid to more than 22,400 affected families across various regions of the country, the spokesperson confirmed.

The recent extreme cold weather and snowfall have particularly impacted parts of Afghanistan, with temperatures plummeting to as low as minus 30 degrees Celsius in some areas.
