ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa emphasized on Saturday that no society can progress without justice.

Speaking at a symposium in Islamabad titled ‘Access to Justice for All’, the Chief Justice stressed the essential representation of women across all sectors.

Justice Isa highlighted that the Constitution of Pakistan grants women their rights, and emphasized the need to ensure women’s participation in every sector.

He suggested the adoption of new laws to safeguard women’s rights, underscoring that the Constitution guarantees women’s protection in the workplace.

Addressing education, Justice Isa advocated for compulsory education for children aged 5 to 16 years. He noted that women’s performance in reserved seats in assemblies often surpasses that of men, and supported the direct election of women.

Regarding Islamic principles, the Chief Justice pointed out that Islam grants rights to women, citing the Quran’s emphasis on knowledge (“Iqra”) without differentiation between genders. He mentioned the Islamic concept of “Qazf” and its legal implications.

Justice Isa acknowledged concerns about gender quotas, highlighting issues such as women’s inheritance rights in Pakistan. He reiterated that Islam stipulates a share of inheritance for women and outlines stringent conditions for proving allegations like adultery.

“According to the Quran, accusing or defaming women is punishable by 80 lashes,” he concluded.
