ISLAMABAD: In a historic achievement for Pakistan, rising squash star Sohail Adnan clinched the Boys Under-13 title at the prestigious British Junior Open 2025 in Birmingham as the remarkable victory not only ends an 18-year title drought for the South Asian nation but also reignites hopes of reclaiming the nation’s legendary status in the world of squash.
Sohail claimed a remarkable win over Elmoghazy with a thrilling game scoreline of 5-11, 11-5, 11-6, 7-11, 5-11, 11-5, showcasing his skill and resilience in a hard-fought battle.
Monumental success
With this monumental success, Sohail has cemented his position among the brightest young talents in international squash.
Pakistan claimed the British Open Under-13 title after an 18-year pause. Sohail Adnan became the 5th Pakistani player to win this coveted junior title.
Pakistan is a sport-loving nation as its youth showed their excel in many sports including cricket, hockey, and squash but the credit goes to players of squash that make the nation famous across the world, Peshawar-based sports journalist Mujahid Pervez said.

He added that Pakistan did not produce more players like Jahangir Khan, and Jansher Khan but the recent success of Sohail Adnan is a ray of new hope, and soon the nation will revive its past glory in the arena of squash.
He further said that the country has a lot of potential, expressing hope that the day will come soon to regain Pakistan’s legendary position in the world of squash.
According to the website of the Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF), squash is the only individual game in which Pakistan has made its presence felt at the global level by making unbeatable records.
The squash makes Pakistan famous around the world as for the better part of five decades, the South Asian nation has completely dominated the game. Pakistan won over 30 British Open titles, 14 World Open titles, and many PSA professional titles between 1950 and 1997.

The player who put Pakistan on the world squash map was Hashim Khan who baffled the world with his artistry, wizardry, and incredible speed inside the squash court.
According to the PSF website, Hashim Khan went on to found a dynasty that dominated the squash world for about three decades.
Jahangir Khan
The names of such great maestros Azam Khan, Roshan Khan, Mohibullah, Qamar Zaman, Jahangir Khan, and Jansher Khan created history in the world of squash, it added.
In his first global appearance, Hashim Khan won the prestigious British Open in England.
His consecutive win in the British Open continued till 1956 and in 1958.
By joining Roshan Khan in 1957 as World Champion, this journey was followed by the stunning efforts of Azam Khan, Roshan Khan, Mohibullah (Snr), Qamar Zaman, Jahangir Khan, and the unmatchable Jansher Khan.
