ISLAMABAD: Federal  Minister for Information and Broadcasting Murtaza Solangi, on Friday, reiterated the commitment of the government and people of Pakistan to contribute support for Kashmir cause.

In a message marking Kashmir Self-Determination Day, Solangi expressed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to backing Kashmiris politically, diplomatically, and morally until they achieve their rightful rights and succeed in their struggle for freedom.

Highlighting the celebration of the right to self-determination by Kashmiri people globally and on both sides of the Line of Control, Solangi emphasized the historical significance of the United Nations Security Council resolution on January 5, 1949. He lamented that, despite 75 years passing since this commitment, the promise to the Kashmiri people remains unfulfilled.

Solangi urged the United Nations to uphold its promises to the Kashmiri people and provide support for their quest for self-determination. He stated that the people of Jammu and Kashmir eagerly awaited a peaceful resolution based on the United Nations Security Council resolutions. Emphasizing the need for the UN Security Council to honor its commitments, Solangi expressed concern over India’s efforts to strengthen its control over occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

Pointing to the Supreme Court of India’s decision on December 11, 2023, regarding the status of the disputed territory, Solangi criticized India’s attempts to alter the demographic makeup of occupied Jammu and Kashmir based on religious lines.  —APP
