BEIRUT, Lebanon: Lebanese state media said an Israeli attack on a car in the south of the country on Tuesday killed two people, with a source close to Iran-backed Hezbollah saying a field commander was among the dead.

Hamas ally Hezbollah and Israel have exchanged fire on a near-daily basis after the Palestinian group attacked southern Israel on October 7.

“An attack by an enemy drone that targeted a car on the Tyre-Al-Hush highway left two people dead,” the National News Agency said, adding that ambulances had rushed to the scene.

A source close to Hezbollah told media that a Hezbollah field commander was killed in the attack.

According to media reports, at least 413 people, mostly militants, but also 79 civilians, have been killed in Lebanon in seven months of cross-border violence.

Israel says 14 soldiers and 10 civilians were killed on its side of the border.
