As per media reports, Russian President Putin will not attend the BRICS summit. The Russian President’s potential trip had posed a legal and diplomatic dilemma for South Africa, as Putin is the target of an ICC arrest warrant, but reports suggest, the Russian leader would not attend the meeting in person.

South Africa’s EFF, leader Julius Malema urged the remaining BRICS leaders to boycott the summit to express solidarity with President Putin.

Malema also denounced the corruption of the ruling ANC, which has governed South Africa since 1994 – pledging to oust the ANC in the upcoming elections in the country.

In March, the South Africa opposition party also organized a protest in a bid to press President Cyril Ramaphosa to quit over his handling of South Africa’s frail economy.
