MADRID: Spain’s Women’s World Cup final goalscoring star Olga Carmona has learned about the death of her father after the country’s 1-0 victory over England, the Spanish federation said on Sunday.
She drilled home the only goal of the match in Sydney to help Spain win the mega tournament for the first time.
In a statement, the Spanish federation said, “The federation regrets having to report the death of Carmona’s father”. She learned the sad report about her father’s death after the World Cup final match against England.

“We send our sincere embraces to Carmona and her family in the time of grief. We love you, Carmona, you are in the history of our football.”
She dedicated her goal to the late mother, displaying a shirt with “Merchi” inscribed on it.
“I want to say this win is for one of my best friend’s late mother, I celebrated the score with that shirt,” she told the media after the final match.
