MADRID: Renowned Spanish actress and Hollywood celebrity Penelope Cruz on Wednesday called for a ceasefire in Gaza war.
The actress wrote a message in her Instagram account saying ceasefire now. Human rights activists have shared screenshots of Penelope Cruz’s story highlighting her support for Gaza and call for an immediate ceasefire by the Israeli army.
Cruz earlier had come under heavy criticism for her support to Gaza during the 2014 Israeli war. She in a letter to Spanish press strongly condemned Israel’s aggression at that time.
According to the Gaza health ministry at least 18,608, Palestinians have been killed in Israeli bombardment since October 7, mostly women and children.
Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie, known for her humanitarian activism and her role as a special envoy for the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), denounced Israel’s military aggression in Gaza.
She criticized world leaders for their inaction and complicity in these crimes stressing for a humanitarian truce.
The Israeli raids have almost destroyed entire neighborhoods in northern Gaza. Israeli ground troops have been facing heavy resistance from Hamas fighters in the area.
According to the UN some 1.87 million Palestinians, over 80 percent of Gaza’s population, have left their homes.
