BRUSSELS: During a seminar at the European Parliament in Brussels, speakers emphasized that India’s ability to silence the voices of the oppressed people of Kashmir is limited and cannot be sustained indefinitely.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the seminar “Voice of Kashmiri people in this changing world,” was organized by Kashmir Council Europe (KC-EU) in connection with its ongoing annual “Kashmir EU Week.”

The speakers emphasized a growing global movement against tyranny and in support of human rights, highlighting the widespread acknowledgment of this wave of awareness worldwide. They stressed that people across the globe are uniting to amplify their voices for the oppressed, urging increased support for the Kashmiri cause. They underscored the need for heightened efforts to draw the attention of the international community towards the human rights abuses in Indian illegally occupied Kashmir, with the goal of resolving the longstanding Kashmir dispute.

During the seminar, Chairman Ali Raza Syed of Kashmir Council EU affirmed their commitment to advocating for Kashmiris and persistently appealing to the conscience of the global community. He mentioned that sustained advocacy has the potential to reshape global perspectives on Kashmir and garner greater backing for the Kashmiri people on an international scale.

The ongoing Kashmir EU Week in Brussels, a series of events dedicated to Kashmir, commenced with a Kashmir-focused photo exhibition at the European press club and will run until December 15. The seminar, attended by intellectuals, experts, and students from European educational institutions, culminated in a debate on the Kashmir dispute at the European parliament.

Ali Raza Syed emphasized that continued advocacy efforts could sway world opinion on Kashmir, citing the global condemnation of state-sponsored terrorism and the solidarity shown against atrocities on civilians worldwide. He expressed concerns that amidst global focus on tensions in Europe (Ukraine) and the Middle East, the Indian government might exploit the situation to commit further atrocities in occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

Highlighting India’s desire to prolong its illegal occupation of the region, Ali Raza Syed condemned the genocide of Kashmiris, extrajudicial killings, arbitrary arrests, and manipulative tactics aimed at altering the demographic composition of Kashmir. He urged prompt action by the international community, particularly the European Union, to halt the atrocities in Kashmir, normalize the situation, and create a peaceful environment conducive to the Kashmiri people’s exercise of their right to self-determination.
