HONG KONG: Sri Lanka triumphed over Pakistan by three wickets in the 2024 Hong Kong Super Sixes final held at Mong Kok on Sunday.
After winning the toss, Sri Lanka chose to bowl first. Pakistan struggled early on, losing two wickets quickly. Mohammad Akhlaq emerged as the top performer for Pakistan, scoring a determined 48 runs.
Captain Faheem Ashraf contributed 13 runs, while Aamer Yamin managed just 6. Asif Ali and Hussain Talat were dismissed for 0 and 1, respectively.
Pakistan’s innings concluded at a low total of 72 runs in their six overs, with Dhananjaya Lakshan and Tharindu Rathnayake each taking two wickets for Sri Lanka.
In pursuit of the modest target of 73 runs, Sri Lanka faced early challenges, losing three wickets but ultimately reached their target with one over to spare. Openers Sandun Weerakkody and Dhananjaya Lakshan set a solid foundation with a quick 39-run partnership.

Weerakkody, the top scorer, made 34 runs off 13 balls before being dismissed by Pakistan’s captain, Faheem Ashraf, in the fourth over. Sri Lanka then found themselves at 59 for 3 after losing two more quick wickets.
However, Tharindu Rathnayake played a crucial role, scoring 16 runs and guiding his team to victory in the penultimate over. For Pakistan, Hussain Talat and Faheem Ashraf each took one wicket.
This victory marks Sri Lanka’s second title in the Hong Kong Super Sixes.
