State will Deal Terrorists with Iron Hands: DG ISPR

RAWALPINDI:  Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmad Sharif Chaudhry has vowed that the war against Fitna al-Khawarij and terrorism will continue till the eradication of the last khariji and terrorist.

He was addressing a news conference over country’s internal security, anti-terrorism measures and other issues. He said that 32,173 intelligence-based operations (IBO) were carried out so far in 2024, with 4,021 of them conducted in the past month where 90 “khawarij terrorists were sent to hell”.

Balochistan

Referring to the deadly August 26 terror attacks in Balochistan, he said they were carried out “on the directives of internal and external enemies and their enablers” with the aim “to impact Balochistan’s peaceful atmosphere and development by targeting innocent people”. He recalled that in response, the security forces eliminated twenty-one terrorists while fourteen security personnel were martyred. “We know that a sense of deprivation is also found among the people in Balochistan, which certain elements exploit on external directives,” he remarked.

Fitna al-Khwarij

He said that the Pakistan Army, police, intelligence and law enforcement agencies “carry out over 130 operations on a daily basis” to eradicate terrorism from the country.  Saying that 193 brave soldiers embraced martyrdom in the last eight months of 2024, the military spokesperson said the entire nation paid rich tribute to them and their bereaved families.

He then detailed an “important and successful operation” carried out since August 20 in the Tirah valley against the “Fitna al-Khwarij and so-called banned organisations Jamaat-ul-Ahrar and Lashkar-i-Islam.”  He said that the Pakistan Army has robust and transparent self-accountability mechanism.

Pakistan Army believes in self-accountability: DG ISPR

Speaking regarding the court martial of former spymaster Lt Gen (Retd) Faiz Hameed, the spokesperson said: “The Pakistan Army believes in self-accountability”.  Pakistan army is totally apolitical and has no political favorites, the DG ISPR said.  He said that there is complete consensus of on Army’s non-political role.

The military spokesperson said that Field General Court Martial proceeding have been initiated against the retired officer. He said that Pakistan Army is fully cognizant of its duties. He added that army officers involved in any political activities will be held accountable. He further said that there is no go area in Pakistan.   He said, “This process of self-accountability works on solid evidence and proof instead of accusations.

Whenever there is a violation of the laws and regulations present in the army, this self-accountability system comes into effect speedily without any discrimination,” he asserted.

Cross Border Terrorism from Afghanistan

The DG ISPR also talked about the spike in terror incidents since the Taliban came to power in Afghanistan. He noted those attempting to create discord between the two brotherly countries are “living in an imaginary world”.
