ISLAMABAD: Australian cricket sensation Steve Smith etched his name into the annals of history by becoming the fourth Aussie to surpass the remarkable 10,000-run mark in Test cricket.
This remarkable feat unfolded on the inaugural day of the first Test against Sri Lanka on Wednesday when the batting virtuoso deftly flicked a delivery from left-arm spinner Prabath Jayasuriya to the mid-wicket boundary.
In achieving this milestone, Smith not only joined the illustrious 10,000 club but did so as the fifth-fastest batter in the world, and the second-fastest Australian to reach this coveted threshold.
It took him just 205 innings to reach this achievement, with only former Australian captain Ricky Ponting having done it quicker at 196 innings. In contrast, Allan Border reached the mark in 235 innings, while Steve Waugh needed 244.
As if that wasn’t enough, Smith also celebrated his 35th Test century on the very same day, further cementing his status as one of the game’s greats.
