ISLAMABAD: A stollen is a classic German bread featuring fruit and nuts, dusted with powdered sugar. This easy German stollen bread recipe is simple enough to make at home.
Ingredients:
500 g flour
200 ml lukewarm water
10 g yeast
100 g raisins, cranberries, and chopped citrus peel, plus nuts
30 ml rum
50 g sugar
10 g salt
5 g ground cinnamon
2 eggs
50 g butter
150 g marzipan
150 g melted and cooled butter
Powdered sugar (for dusting)
Instructions:
Soak the dried fruit in rum and ground cinnamon for at least a month.
In a bowl, cream together the sugar and butter. Add the eggs and mix well.
Dissolve the yeast in lukewarm water, then combine it with flour and salt to form a dough.
Incorporate the rum-soaked fruits and nuts into the dough, along with the sugar-butter mixture.
Place the dough aside for fifteen minutes.
Divide the dough into small portions, fill with marzipan, and wrap it up.
Let the rolled dough sit at room temperature for 30 minutes.
Bake in an oven preheated to 170 degrees Celsius for about twenty minutes.
Remove the bread from oven and allow it to cool.
Brush with melted butter and dust with grinded sugar.
