Strengthening Physical, Mental Health: World Bicycle Day to be Marked on Saturday

ISLAMABAD: World Bicycle Day will be observed on Saturday (June 3) across the globe, including Pakistan, to develop a culture of cycling for basic transportation, commutation, and strengthening mental and physical health.

Observing the day aims to recognize and highlight the bicycle’s longevity, versatility and uniqueness and that it is a reliable, simple, affordable, clean and environmentally fit sustainable source of transport.

World Bicycle Day is a special day to be enjoyed by all and sundry regardless of any characteristic, class, or status. The bicycle is a symbol of human progress and advancement as it promotes tolerance, respect, mutual understanding and social inclusion, noise-free culture.

Bicycle is a Source of Physical, Mental Health, Easy Transport

The bicycle is also considered a symbol of sustainable transport, conveys an optimistic message to foster sustainable production and consumption, and positively impacts climate.

World Bicycle Day is now also connected with promoting a healthy and fit lifestyle for those with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.

Despite having an economical and environmentally friendly ride, unfortunately, one can rarely witness the usage of bicycles, or it has become a ride for the poor class. In developed countries, most of cities have dedicated tracks for bikes. A segment of society in Islamabad is trying to promote the culture as a group with the name of Early Bird usually arrange cycling events. However, more is needed as the government is required to facilitate the activity across the country.
