DOHA: Sudanese army chief General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan met Qatar’s ruler on Thursday during his third visit abroad since the fight broke out in April, after also visiting South Sudan and Egypt in recent days.

General Burhan, whose forces are fighting the RSF, had spent months under siege in the army headquarters in the country’s capital, Khartoum and stayed in conflict-hit country until late August.
In Doha, Qatar General Burhan received a red carpet welcome and discussed “the current situation and challenges facing Sudan” with the emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, a statement said on Thursday.

According to the official Qarar News Agency, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan left Doha on Thursday afternoon. The fight between RSF commander Mohamed Hamdan Daglo and Burhan has killed more than 5,000 people in the African country.
Earlier, on Wednesday, General Burhan issued a decree dissolving the country’s RSF, while Washington slapped sanctions on top commander Abdelrahim Hamdan Daglo, the brother of the head of paramilitary forces.

The Transitional Sovereignty Council, led by General Burhan, said the decree was “based on the consequences of these troops’ rebellion against the state, the grave violations they carried out against citizens, and intentional sabotage of Sudan’s infrastructure”.
Human rights activists have also blamed the RSF of atrocities, including looting, mass killings of ethnic minorities, and rape in the country. The Sudan’s army, too, has been accused of abuses, including the bombing of residential regions where the RSF have a presence. _APP
