Sufi Poet Wasif Ali Wasif’s Death Anniversary Observed

LAHORE: The 31st death anniversary of the veteran Urdu poet, Sufi, thinker, and author, Wasif Ali Wasif observed on Thursday.

He is known for his unique and contemporary literary style and is still loved by every generation. His poetry has elements of spirituality and Sufism, which makes it relatable for everyone.

His poetry in Punjabi and Urdu languages depicts the hard realities of this world. His books enlighten the fainthearted.

His book “Kiran Kiran Suraj” remained a best seller for many years. His most notable books, include ‘Shabe Chiragh’ and ‘Dil Darya Samundar’, served as a treasure trove of wisdom.

He also used to pen short essays on topics such as love, fear, life, fortune, hope, promise, expectation, prayer, happiness, and sorrow, with the clear objective of spreading the true spirit of Islam.

Wasif Ali Wasif was born on January 15, 1929, in Khushab. He received his early education in Khushab and then moved to Jhang for higher studies. He did his B.A. and M.A. in English literature from Khushab.

He had an outstanding academic background.  He died on January 18, 1993.
