GILGIT: Sultana Nasab has become the third Pakistani woman to summit K2, also known as the “Savage Mountain”, her remarkable achievement is being celebrated as a pioneering milestone for women across Pakistan.

Hailing from the upper Hunza region in Pakistan’s northern Gilgit-Baltistan, Nasab was the sole female member of her expedition group, led by Sirbaz Khan, the esteemed Pakistani climber.  She successfully summited on Monday, joining the ranks of Samina Baig and Naila Kiani, the only other Pakistani females to have previously conquered the world’s second-highest mountain.

In a remarkable achievement, Sultana Nasab from GB, a member of the first women’s expedition group, successfully conquered K2, the world’s second-highest mountain.  The expedition included seven other climbers, who also reached the summit including Sirbaz Khan, Faryad, Sherzad Karim, Abdul Joshi, Ejaz Karim, Ali Muhammad Sarpara, and Muhammad Ali Sarpara.

Standing at 8,611 meters (28,251 feet) on the Pakistan-China border, K2 is 238 meters shorter than Everest but is regarded as a more technically challenging climb, hence also known as “Savage Mountain.”

Mountaineers are particularly wary of the “Bottleneck,” a notorious and dangerous section of the route. Numerous climbers have lost their lives attempting to conquer this frightening peak.
