‘Super Fog’ Leaves 7 Dead After 158 Vehicles Crash in US

NEW ORLEANS: As many as 7 people have died following a dense “super fog” caused a massive, 158-car pile-up near New Orleans in the United States, Western media reported on Tuesday.

Police officials also confirmed the accident and said that 25 people were wounded in the crash on Interstate 55 in St John the Baptist Parish. However, Police expressed fear that the death toll may increase.

Some cars caught fire and were abandoned, leaving a track of burnt-out debris and muddled metal.

The blaze incident broke out as one of the cars involved in the crash was a tanker truck transporting what police officials called a “hazardous liquid”.

According to police, one vehicle was driven off the road and into the water, but the driver was rescued.

The National Weather Service in New Orleans termed the weather phenomenon as a “super fog”, cautioning that likewise dangerous weather conditions can appear later in the current week.

The National Weather Service said on Tuesday morning that heavy overnight winds have helped to disperse fog in several parts, but also warned that hazardous driving conditions persisted in many regions.

Governor John Bel Edwards expressed sympathy with the families of the killed and injured people, and asked residents to donate blood at medical center to “assist replenish supplies that are being drained today to care for the injured”.
