ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has summoned the petitioner who filed a plea seeking the Feb 8 general polls to be declared null and void due to alleged violations of electoral integrity, local media reported. The Supreme Court issued a notice to the petitioner namely Ali Khan and adjourned the hearing until Feb 21.
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa and including Justice Musarrat Hilali and Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar heard the case. As per media reports, as the petitioner did not appear before the apex court today, the Chief Justice asked where he was. At this, Justice Mazhar noted that the petitioner had pleaded on February 13 to withdraw his petition.
The Chief Justice of Pakistan then ordered that the petitioner be produced before the court and ordered the police to ensure that he (petitioner) appeared before the court.
Supreme Court Hears Plea Regarding Feb 8 Polls
Earlier, the petition pleaded the court to order new polls within 30 days to ensure transparency, fairness, and accountability.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announced the complete results of the Feb 8 elections in Pakistan and the now political parties are holding consultation to form the new government. PML-N had nominated former Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif as its candidate for the slot of PM while PTI named Omar Ayub as candidate for PM position.
Similarly, tough political consultations are underway between the political parties to form government in all provinces of the country.
