ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Wednesday held that governor Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Haji Ghulam Ali violated the constitution by not announcing date for the elections to the provincial assembly after he signed the dissolution of the assembly.
In its judgment, the apex court held that it was the constitutional responsibility of the governor to announce date for the election. The court further held that the president could announce date if governor fails to do so. As far as Punjab is concerned, the court ruled, the president could give a date for the election to the provincial assembly.
