ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has suspended the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) notification for the formation of election tribunals and the Lahore High Court’s decision regarding the same. The verdict was made by a five-member larger bench led by Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa.

The court’s decision comes after the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) appealed against the establishment of election tribunals, pleading that it falls under their jurisdiction.

PTI’s lawyer, Niazullah Niazi, tried to challenge the bench’s composition, demanding that the case be shifted to another bench. Chief Justice of Pakistan has dismissed this objection, saying that the current bench would continue the hearing. The CJP also questioned Niazi’s interest in the case, highlighting that it was a matter between the Chief Justice and the ECP, not a private individual.

The CJP, along with other bench members, also expressed strong disapproval of Niazi’s acts, noting that he had raised no objections during the last hearings. They also deemed his objection as an attempt to create headlines and discredit the apex court. The CJP even threatened disciplinary action against Niazi, suggesting that his matter be referred to the Pakistan Bar Council.
