Suspected Jihadists Attack Leaves 20 Dead in Burkina Faso

OUAGADOUGOU: At least 20 have been killed in a suspected jihadists attack in Burkina Faso, AFP reported on Monday.

The French News agency quoting security and local sources said that the attack was allegedly carried out by the jihadists near Togo border in the eastern part of the country.

As per reports most of the traders were killed in the incident while dozens were also injured.

According to an NGO data, more than 16,000 civilians, troops and police have lost their lives in jihadists attacks. Since the start of this year, more than 5,000 have been killed in such attacks.

Burkina Faso displaces two-million people

The unrest in the region has displaced more than two million people which is the worst displacement in the African region.

Captain Ibrahim Traore took over the government in Burkina Faso in September 2022 and ousted Lieutenant-Colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, who toppled the country’s last democratic government of President, Roch Marc Christian Kabore.

Burkina Faso’s junta has been facing a jihadist insurgency that originated from neighboring country of Mali in 2015.
