Syria-Turkey Quake Death Toll Passes Above 28,000: Officials

ANKARA:  The death toll in Syria and Turkey from the earthquake has surpassed over 28,000, official said on Saturday. According to BBC, Austrian army and German rescuers suspended search and rescue operations on Saturday, citing clashes between different unknown groups.

And about 50 suspects have been captured for looting, local press reported. Germany said the rescue teams would resume their search as soon as Turkish officials deem the situation safe and sound. Turkish Vice President, Fuat Oktay confirmed on Saturday the death toll in the country has climbed to 24,617.

And there are some reports that the government of Syria has agreed to let United Nations aid and assistance into areas held by opposition parties and groups.

Reports suggest that the death toll in the war hit Syria from the quake now stands at 3,500.

The Chief of WHO also arrived in the quake-hit city of Aleppo in Syria on Saturday. According to official social media account of WHO, he visited hospitals and met with the victims of earthquake.
