Syria’s Two Main Airports Still Not Functional after Attacked by Israel

DAMASCUS:  Syria’s two main airports are still not functional after simultaneous Israeli strikes put them out of service, a war monitor said on Wednesday.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights noted that this is the longest such closure since the conflict in Syria started.

It further reported two Israeli strikes near the capital Damascus on Wednesday, targetied Lebanon’s Hezbollah group.

Flights have been suspended from Damascus and Aleppo airports of Syrian since the Israeli strikes on October 22 damaged the runways.

Rami Abdel Rahman, head of the Britain-based Observatory, said both the airports in the Arab state are closed despite the completion of repair work.

Moreover, during the past decade of war in Syria, Israel has launched numerous airstrikes on its northern neighbor, with a primary focus on targeting Iran-backed forces, Lebanese Hezbollah fighters, and Syrian army positions.

Israeli airstrikes have frequently disrupted flights at airports in Damascus and Aleppo, both controlled by the Syrian government.

Earlier Syrian defence ministry criticized Israel, accusing it of having a criminal approach and committing crimes against the Palestinian people.
