KINGSTOWN: Powered by experienced all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan’s unbeaten half-century, Bangladesh grabbed an easy victory over the Netherlands by restricting the Dutch batters to 134/8 in the 27th match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup played at Arnos Vale Ground, Kingstown on Thursday.

Bangladesh emerged victorious against the Netherlands by a margin of 25 runs, strengthening their position in the tournament and enhancing their prospects of advancing to the Super 8 stage.

After being sent into bat by Dutch captain Scott Edwards, Bangladesh posted a competitive total of 159 runs for the loss of five wickets. Shakib Al Hasan played a key role in anchoring the innings with an unbeaten 64 runs off 46 deliveries, supported by contributions from Tanzid Hasan and Mahmudullah, who scored 35 and 25 runs, respectively.

In response, the Netherlands faced an uphill battle chasing the target set by Bangladesh. Despite brief partnerships between their batsmen, the Dutch struggled to build momentum and ultimately fell short of the required total, managing only 134 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their allotted 20 overs.

Bangladesh’s bowlers put up a disciplined performance, with Rishad Hossain leading the charge by claiming three crucial wickets. Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, and Mahmudullah also made significant contributions with the ball, picking up wickets at regular intervals to restrict the Dutch batting lineup.

For the unversed, Bangladesh are second in Group D of the T20 World Cup 2024 with two points in two matches, closely followed by the Netherlands, who boast a similar record but an inferior net run rate.
