T20 World Cup: Namibia Defeat Oman After Super Over Drama

Barbados: Namibia won against Oman in T20 World Cup 2024 after super over drama at the Kensington Oval in Barbados. Namibia scored a thrilling super over win over Oman in their Group B clash in Barbados. David Wiese was the hero of the match, blasting 13 runs in Namibia’s super over total of 21 before then restricting Oman to just 10 runs to seal win. The game at Kensington Oval went to a super over following a nerve-jangling low-scoring battle which saw Oman bundled out for 109 runs. Namibia’s run-chase then faltered after a stunning bowling performance by Mehran Khan of Omran saw them finish on 109-6 to set up the super over drama.

Oman had looked to be heading for defeat following a superb four-wicket bowling show from Ruben Trumpelmann saw them all out for 109 off 19.4 overs. Oman’s bowlers replied with a disciplined performance to contain Namibia, with Mehran Khan conjuring a superb spell to leave the game on a knife edge. Mehran Khan finished with figures of three wickets for just seven runs off three overs.

The Oman bowler took two wickets in the final over to disturb Namibia, who had needed just 5 runs from the over to clinch win. But Mehran Khan was bizarrely overlooked for the super over bowling duties by Oman side, with Bilal Khan handed the ball instead.

That move backfired spectacularly, though, with Wiese blasting a four off the first ball and then crushing a full toss for six off Mehran Khan’s second ball. Wiese also took three more runs off the next two balls before Namibia captain Gerhard Erasmus hit back-to-back fours to set Oman a daunting win target of 22 off their super over.

Wiese took over the bowling duties for Namibia and following conceding just two runs from his first two deliveries, took the wicket of Naseem.

Two more singles left Oman needing 18 from the last delivery to win, meaning Wiese could allow Zeeshan Maqsood to blast a six knowing win was assured.
