FLORIDA: Pakistan officially knocked out of this year’s T20 World Cup after the USA vs Ireland game was called off after continuous rain on Friday.

With no play possible due to a wet outfield and subsequent rain, both teams shared one point each. This took the co-hosts to 5 points to finish on second on the points table and made history by advancing to the Super Eight stage in its maiden appearance in the Two World Cup.  The USA joined India in the Super 8s.

Even if Pakistan wins their match against Ireland on Sunday, they can only reach a maximum of 4 points.

For Pakistan to qualify, the USA-Ireland match needed to happen with the USA defeat. That would have given Pakistan a chance to beat Ireland and advance to the next round. However, the weather played spoilsport, and Babar Azam’s team was knocked out.

Earlier, the chances for a match looked slim as the state of Florida, where Lauderhill is located, had been hit by a tropical thunderstorm, causing incessant rain and flash flooding.

The only game of the tournament scheduled to be held at Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground – between Sri Lanka and Nepal – was abandoned on Tuesday evening without a ball being bowled, contributing to Sri Lanka’s elimination from Super Eight contention.
