TAIPEI, Taiwan: Taiwan reported detecting 37 Chinese military aircraft, including fighter jets and drones, near its territory on Sunday.
These aircraft were part of Beijing’s “long-distance” training exercises, with 35 of them reportedly crossing the median line a respected boundary between Taiwan and mainland China.
The Ministry of Defence in Taiwan responded by mobilizing aircraft, naval vessels, and shore-based missile systems to monitor and counteract the intrusion.
The exercise follows Taiwan’s announcement a day earlier that it had detected a joint combat patrol involving Chinese fighter jets and warships around the island.
Within the last 24 hours, Taiwan recorded 27 Chinese aircraft and six warships near its waters. This rise in activity aligns with Beijing’s increased pressure on Taiwan, emphasizing its claims of sovereignty over the island and refusing to exclude force as a unification strategy.
Beijing’s recent large-scale drills around Taiwan have been met with international criticism, particularly from the United States, which supports Taiwan’s security.
