Taliban Delegation to Participate in Moscow Format Meeting on Afghanistan

KABUL: A delegation led by Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Taliban’s foreign minister, embarked on a visit to Russia today to attend the Moscow Format meeting on Afghanistan, set to convene in the city of Kazan later this week.

The Moscow Format meeting will gather neighboring nations of Afghanistan, including Iran, China, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, and Russia, along with several other participating countries.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, in an announcement made on Sunday, highlighted that the forthcoming Moscow Format meeting will be primarily centered on discussions regarding strategies to address the pressing challenges that Afghanistan is currently facing.

Challenges for Afghanistan

Lavrov emphasized that the meeting will delve into potential actions that neighboring countries can undertake to collectively address the multifaceted issues confronting Afghanistan.

Prominent concerns among Afghan citizens include poverty, limited access to education, and restrictions on the rights and opportunities of girls and women. The discussions at the Moscow Format meeting aim to explore viable solutions to these challenges and pave the way for enhanced stability and progress in Afghanistan.
