KABUL: The Taliban administration has signed seven major mining contracts worth around $6.5 billion with local, Asian, and European companies, reported Western media on Thursday.

Afghan Ministry of Mines and Petroleum has signed contracts with private companies from Afghanistan, Türkiye, Iran, and China, said the office of acting deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund.

Mining contracts to create employment opportunities

According the Afghan officials, the mines are situated in Herat, Ghor, Loghar, and Takhar provinces. As per the contracts, the companies would extract and process gold, copper, plumbum, and iron from mines.

A total amount of $6.557 billion will be invested in these seven projects. This would create thousands of jobs and improve the country’s economic situation. This is the biggest agreement signed by the Taliban since their return to rule in August 2021.
