LOS ANGELES: Negotiations between media companies and the union representing striking US actors are set to resume on Tuesday, according to a joint statement issued by both parties.

The talks, which had broken down last week, are critical to resolving the ongoing strike that has severely disrupted film and television production, leaving thousands of crew members and actors without work.

Members of SAG-AFTRA, a union representing 160,000 actors and media professionals, have been on strike since July, demanding a fair deal from the Alliance for Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), the organization negotiating on behalf of studios. The contentious issues in the negotiations include streaming revenue and the use of artificial intelligence in the industry.

US Actors Strike Disrupts Hollywood

“The AMPTP and SAG-AFTRA will meet for bargaining on October 24th, Tuesday at SAG-AFTRA Plaza. Several executives from AMPTP member companies will attend the meeting,” stated the joint announcement. However, no further details about the upcoming negotiations were provided.

The strike has had significant consequences, disrupted various film and TV projects and left many workers unemployed. The resumption of talks raises hopes for a resolution, allowing the industry to move forward and resume normal production activities.

This development follows the recent ratification of a new three-year contract by Hollywood’s film and television writers, marking the end of their 148-day work stoppage earlier this month.
