ISLAMABAD: Former Bangladesh captain, Tamim Iqbal, has been admitted to hospital following a severe heart attack during a Dhaka Premier League (DPL) match in Savar on Monday.

The 36-year-old batsman, who was captaining Mohammedan Sporting Club against Shinepukur Cricket Club at BKSP, suddenly experienced chest discomfort while on the field, according to Cricbuzz.


He was quickly taken to hospital for further evaluation after receiving medical attention on the pitch.

“He complained of chest pain and was taken to a nearby hospital where he underwent an ECG,” confirmed BCB chief physician, Debashish Chowdhury.

Initial blood test

“In the initial blood test, an issue was detected. He mentioned feeling unwell and expressed a desire to return to Dhaka. An ambulance was arranged, and while heading back to the field from the hospital, he experienced more chest pain. He was taken back to the hospital and it appeared he had suffered a massive heart attack. He is now under observation at Fazilatunnesa Hospital.”

Several members of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) are on their way to Savar, and a board meeting has been rescheduled for Monday.

Successful angiogram procedure

Later in the day, the BCB confirmed that Tamim had undergone a successful angiogram procedure to address a blockage in one of his heart’s arteries.
