Tanzanian Conjoined Twins Arrive in KSA for Medical Treatment

RIYADH: A pair of conjoined Tanzanian twins on Wednesday arrived in the capital city of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Riyadh where they would be assessed to see whether or not they can be separated, Arab media reported.

The twin boys, named Hussain and Hassan were accompanied by their mother and were shifted to King Abdullah Specialized Children’s Hospital on their arrival.

The twins travelled on a medical evacuation plane as per the directive of King Salman and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman.

The chief of the medical team Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Rabeeah managing the assessment, thanked the leadership of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for their support and assistance of the Saudi program to separate conjoined pairs and humanitarian work.

Earlier, in July, a team of Saudi surgeons and doctors had successfully separated Syrian conjoined twins during a seven-hour surgery at the King Abdullah Specialist Children’s Hospital in Riyadh. The kids named Ihsan and Bassam. The complicated surgery was carried out in five stages and 26 professionals including, specialists, consultants, nursing, technical, and support staff took part in the medical operation.

The operation was led by Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah, General Supervisor of KSrelief as per the directives of Saudi King Salman and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman.

The parents of the kids thanked King Salman, the Crown Prince, and Saudi medical team for their support.

The father of the kids, Mahmud Salih lauded the procedure of the operation and thanked to Saudi aid agency for supporting his family and kids.

Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah appreciated the excellent medical staff and facilities at King Abdullah Hospital. He said that it was a very tough surgery, but they had no other option but to conduct the operation to separate the twins.
