ISLAMABAD: In a tragic incident near the Shahdara area of Islamabad, a school teacher lost her life, and at least 20 students sustained injuries when a school bus veered off the road and fell into a ravine on Saturday. The fatal accident occurred during a school trip, raising concerns about the safety of students during such trips.
Police authorities confirmed the demise of a 22-year-old teacher identified as Hania and reported that 54 persons, including school staff and students, were on board the bus. Police said that the students had been brought to the federal capital from Sheikhupura on a school trip.
Among the passengers were 13 teachers and staff members, along with 22 boys and 19 girls from the school. The injured were immediately shifted to various hospitals in the federal capital for medical assistance.
Injured Students Admitted to Islamabad Hospitals
Thirteen students were admitted to Poly Clinic Hospital, while eight were taken to PIMS hospital for treatment. Authorities disclosed that the bus’s engine was running with the driver standing outside when the vehicle started moving downhill, ultimately ending up in a ditch. Fortunately, some passengers had disembarked before the bus began its descent.
Initially, it was reported that the bus driver fled the scene after the accident; however, subsequent updates indicated that the driver was later apprehended.
