Teams Confirm Participation in ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier 2024

ISLAMABAD: Uganda and Zimbabwe emerged as the top performers in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier, securing their positions in the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier to be held in Dubai in 2024.

In a determined semi-final clash, Uganda displayed resilience against Tanzania, clinching victory by 10 runs with four balls to spare. Meanwhile, Zimbabwe asserted their dominance in the sub-Saharan Africa semi-final derby by securing a convincing 86-run win over Namibia, as reported in the International Cricket Council’s press release on Monday.

The two finalists from Africa will join eight other teams in the Global Qualifier, determining the lineup for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 in Bangladesh. The qualified teams include Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, and the West Indies.

Uganda, Zimbabwe Qualify for ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Round

The participating teams in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifiers are Ireland, Netherlands, Scotland, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Uganda, UAE, USA, Vanuatu, and Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe, led by standout performances from Nkomo (2 wickets for 4 runs), N Sibanda (2 wickets for 8 runs), K Ndhlovu (1 wicket for 9 runs), and A Ndiraya (1 wicket for 1 run), secured an impressive 86-run victory over Namibia, with 22 balls to spare.

In the semi-final between Uganda and Tanzania, Uganda won the toss and chose to bat. Uganda posted a total of 99 for 4 in 20 overs, with S Nampiina contributing 51 runs and R Musamali scoring an unbeaten 35*. In response, Tanzania managed 89 all out in 19.2 overs, with R Musamali (3 wickets for 11 runs), J Mbabazi (3 wickets for 14 runs), and L Anyait (1 wicket for 18 runs) playing key roles. Uganda secured victory by 10 runs with 4 balls remaining.
