Temperatures in the UK May Drop to -16C This Week

ISLAMABAD: This week is expected to experience the coldest nights of the year as temperatures can potentially reach -16C.

According to Sky News, an amber warning for snow and intense cold is in place in the southwest of England.

The warning is for Kent, Cornwall, and up to south London. The Met Office warned of 2cm and 5cm of snow could accumulate, with as much as 10cm over higher ground.

Some roads and railways may be affected by the possibility of icy patches on untreated roads.

“At least 300 properties have flooded across England since New Year’s Eve along with the protection of more than 41,000,” said the Environment Agency.

Flood Minister’s statement

Floods minister Emma Hardy said: “My sympathies go out to the people, businesses and communities impacted by the recent flooding across the country.”

“I want to express my heartfelt thanks for the vital work that the Environment Agency and emergency services are doing to keep people safe. People must continue to follow their advice and sign up for flood warnings,” she further said.

Across England, some 100 flood warnings were in force, with people asked to remain vigilant.

“Firefighters have rescued dozens of people across Leicestershire since Monday,” Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said.

Hundreds of schools had to be closed across the UK.  Roads and rail links were blocked, as Manchester, Bristol, and Liverpool John Lennon airports suspended flights because of the conditions.
