LONDON: Former Indian Legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar praised James Anderson for his inspirational career as the England fast bowler retired from international cricket on Friday.

Anderson marked his farewell with a superb performance, claiming 3-32 in 16 overs as England defeated the West Indies by an innings and 114 runs in the first Test at Lord’s.

Anderson, who turns 42 later this month, concluded his illustrious career with 704 Test wickets in 188 matches, making him the most successful pace bowler in Test cricket history. Only spinners Shane Warne (708 wickets) and Muttiah Muralitharan (800) have more wickets overall.

Tendulkar, who played a record 200 Tests for India before retiring in 2013, expressed his admiration for Anderson on social media platform X: “You’ve captivated fans with your incredible 22-year journey. It’s been a delight to witness your bowling—your action, speed, accuracy, swing, and fitness. You’ve been a role model for generations with your game.”

The 51-year-old batting legend, who amassed a record 15,921 Test runs, continued, “Wishing you a wonderful life ahead filled with good health and happiness as you embark on the next chapter—spending time with family.”
