Tesla’s Mexico Factory Site Almost Twice Size of Texas Plant

ISLAMABAD/MEXICO CITY: A Mexican official said that Tesla Inc’s proposed factory in Mexico’s state of Nuevo Leon would be built on a site spanning many thousand acres, almost twice the size of its industrial site in Texas, with construction slated to start in three months.

 

In an interview, Santa Catarina mayor Jesus Nava said Tesla was purchasing the site from private owners. He said that the land spans nearly 4,200 acres in the industrial zone, more than double the size of Mexico City’s international airport.

 

Tesla’s company in Austin, Texas, one of three existing Tesla car plants, sits on 2,500 acres, according to Tesla’s website.

 

Nava said Tesla would reveal what vehicles it would produce at the Nuevo Leon factory when it breaks ground, which it programmes to do in three months. Elon Musk, Tesla’s Chief Executive announced a project on Wednesday, one day after Andres

 

Manuel Lopez Obrador, Mexican President, said that Tesla would build the assembly plant in Mexico. Tesla company didn’t respond to a request for comment on Nava’s remarks on Thursday.
