EDINBURG: Republican Candidate for the US presidential run, Donald Trump has won the endorsement of Texas Governor Greg Abbott at an event near the U.S.-Mexico border on Sunday, Western media reported.

They met on the location to highlight the former U.S. president’s plans to crack down on immigration if he clinches the 2024 election.

Trump, the frontrunner for the Republican nomination has traveled to Edinburg, Texas, with governor Abbott to visit Texas National Guard soldiers, Texas Department of Public Safety troopers and other service members there.

Abbott on the occasion said Biden’s border policies pose a danger to all communities in the United States. He praised Trump with cutting down the number of border crossings to the lowest point during his tenure as the president.

Abbott said that America cannot progress under the leadership of Joe Biden as its president. He said that the US needs a president who secures the border.

Trump honored by Abbott’s endorsement

Trump in his remarks said he was honored by the endorsement of Abbott.

Since Biden became president in 2021, U.S. border agents have arrested more than 5 million migrants while making irregular crossings.

Large numbers of migrants are those who have fled economic and political turmoil in Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela.

Trump has vowed to start crack down on illegal immigration and restrict legal immigration if elected next year. His plans to restore his 2019 “remain in Mexico” program that forced non-Mexican migrants seeking to enter the United States from US-Mexico to wait in Mexico for the resolution of their cases.

The program was ended by Biden, who defeated Trump in 2020 elections vowing more humane and immigration policies.

Abbott is a leading Republican on border issues by initiating his own Operation Lone Star border security plan.
