BANGKOK: A Thai drug dealer had many facial plastic surgeries to look like a “Korean man” and hide from the law, local authorities have claimed.
Saharat Sawangjaeng, who had adopted the alias Seong Jimin, was caught last week in Bangkok, BBC News reported. Police, who had been trying to hunt the 25-year-old for the last three months, said: “nothing of his original face was left after treatments.”
The police tracked down the accused by tracing the distribution of ecstasy to other sellers and buyers in the city.
“Handsome Korean man”
Witnesses told police that he was a “handsome Korean man”. Also, he had switched to a Korean name. Sawangjaeng stated his desire to relocate to South Korea in a video of the arrest supplied by the police: “I desire to begin a new life. Thailand has grown old to me “.
Sawangjaeng has been accused of bringing in illegal drugs. The police reported last week that he had admitted to using cryptocurrencies to buy MDMA, better known as ecstasy, from the dark web.
Thai police arrested Sawangjaeng at an apartment in Bangkok. Sawangjaeng had previously been arrested on three occasions. Once, he was detained on an assault charge, and the police found 2kg (4.4lb) of narcotics in liquid form and 290 ecstasy pills in his possession.
But Sawangjaeng managed to escape from detention and, at one point, did extensive surgical treatments to dodge the police. Theeradej Thammasutee, Police major-general, described him as “one of the leading causes of MDMA epidemic in Bangkok,” reported, The Straits Times.
Thammasutee said, “He is a drug dealer at just 25 years old importing MDMA from Europe. We believe that there could be more suspects in foreign countries. We would continue our investigation.”
Sawangjaeng said in a video that mainly he imported drugs from the Netherlands; he further added that he had no idea about the identity of the people he was dealing with as part of the operation.
