BANGKOK, Thailand: As Americans prepare to vote, Thailand’s social media sensation Moo Deng, a baby pygmy hippo, has made her own election prediction, choosing former president Donald Trump over Democrat Kamala Harris.
The playful four-month-old hippo at Khao Kheow Open Zoo was presented with two dishes of carved fruit labeled with each candidate’s name. Moo Deng’s choice of Trump has added a playful twist to the heated race, with the zoo sharing the video online, reports AFP.
Moo Deng, whose name translates to “bouncy pork,” has captivated international audiences, especially in the US, inspiring memes, merchandise, and even a “Saturday Night Live” sketch where comedian Bowen Yang portrayed her.
Despite no official record of hippos’ soothsaying skills, Moo Deng joins a long line of animal “oracles,” reminiscent of Paul the Octopus, who famously predicted World Cup match outcomes in 2010. Whether her prediction proves accurate remains to be seen, but she’s already won a landslide of online support.
