ISLAMABAD/ MANILLA: The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) said on Thursday that the unemployment rate in the country rose to 4.8 percent in January 2023 from 4.3 percent in December 2022.

The PSA data revealed 2.37 million Filipinos were out of work in January, which is higher than the 2.22 million in December last year.

Dennis Mapa, the head of PSA, stated at a news conference that “the main element that contributed to the high jobless numbers in January was construction, with roughly 557,000,” adding that the predicted unemployment rate in January was lower than the 6.4 percent a year earlier.
