Thousands Join Pro-Palestinian Demonstration in Geneva

GENEVA: Several thousand people rallied in a pro-Palestinian demonstration in Geneva, Switzerland on Saturday as Israel readied forces for an expected invasion of the Gaza Strip.

Police and organisers said around six thousand people attended the protest.

Demonstrators marched behind a banner reading “Free Palestine” and chanted”Israel: assassins”, and “Long live Palestine” while dozens waved Palestinian flags.

Cardboard placards read: “End Israeli apartheid”, We want peace in Palestine and not a Palestine in pieces”, “What you’re calling ‘self defence’ is actually a genocide”, and “Boycott Israel”.

Save children in Palestine

One boy held a placard inscribed with “Save the children of Gaza”.

On the Gazan side, health officials said that over 2,200 people had been killed.

While Geneva permitted a pro-Palestinian demonstration, other Swiss cities including Basel and Zurich have not authorised such rallies.
