LONDON, England: Thousands of riot police in the UK are on high alert as the country grapples with unprecedented violence triggered by the murder of three young girls.
Far-right groups have planned protests targeting immigration and asylum-related sites across more than 30 locations.
These disturbances represent the most severe disorder in England since the 2011 London riots, prompting the government to mobilize 6,000 specialist officers to manage the crisis.
The violence erupted after a knife attack during a Taylor Swift dance class in Southport resulted in the deaths of three girls aged nine, seven, and six, with five more children critically injured.
Initial misinformation spread via social media falsely accused a Muslim asylum seeker of the crime. The suspect, 17-year-old Axel Rudakubana, was later identified as a Welsh-born individual of Rwandan descent.

Despite official statements clarifying the suspect’s identity, the unrest quickly escalated. Rioters targeted mosques, cars, and hotels used for housing asylum seekers.
The violence has led to numerous arrests and charges, with some individuals already receiving prison sentences. Prime Minister Keir Starmer has warned that those inciting violence will face severe legal consequences, and the government is pushing for rapid and substantive sentencing.
The disturbances have prompted travel warnings from other countries and criticisms from figures like Elon Musk, who compared the UK to a “Soviet Union” amidst the crisis.
The UK government, under intense scrutiny, is focusing on restoring order and ensuring the safety of its communities, with additional prison spaces allocated to handle the surge in detainees.
