Three Blasts Hit Marathon in Cameroon: Officials

YAOUNDE, CAMEROON:  Officials said that at least 18 people were injured when the explosion took place during a marathon in African country Cameroon on Saturday.

Local media said that the blasts targeted the “Race of Hope” annual marathon in Buea. The country’s minister for sports confirmed that 18 people suffered injuries including an athlete and 17 spectators.

Regional governor Bernard Okalia Bilai said that several attempts were made to disrupt the race but the explosions have no impact on annual marathon.

According to TRT world, Ambazonian Defence Forces claimed responsibility for the attacks in a video on social media, saying they targeted troops protecting the athletes in the race.

The US embassy in the country condemned the attack via Twitter and wished those wounded in the attack “a speedy recovery.”  AFP reported that over 450 athletes participated in the “Race of Hope”.
