DUBAI: At least five people were reported killed on Saturday in an apparent “terrorist” attack in Mogadishu, Somalia and the United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) defense ministry said 3 of the dead were Emirati troops and one was a Bahraini. A fifth casualty was presumed to be a Somali officer, Arab News reported.

In a post on social media, the UAE Ministry of Defense said the victims were part of a mission to train Somali troops, under a program which falls within a military cooperation deal between Somalia and UAE, the statement said.

Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud offered his condolences to the UAE after the incident.
