Eight Martyred in Twin Blasts Near Police Station in Northwest Pakistan: Officials

SWAT: Police officials said on Monday that more than 8 people, including police personnel were martyred and more than 20 wounded in a “suspected suicide blast” at a Counter Terrorism Department police station in Swat’s Kabal.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Inspector General of Police Akhtar Hayat Khan told the media that security officials were on “high alert” across the province.  Earlier, District Police Officer Shafi Ullah Gandapur told the reporters that two blasts occurred near the police station, which destroyed the building of the police station.

Counter Terrorism Department DIG Khalid Sohail said the collapse of the building caused a power outage in the area, and the nature of the blasts is yet to be ascertained.

Earlier, local officials said that three people have been reportedly martyred and several others wounded in a bomb blast near the Counter-Terrorism Department police station in Kabal town of Swat district.

The explosion occurred in Swat’s Kabal Town near the police station. After the blasts, the electricity supply to the locality was also disrupted.

Heavy contingents of police personnel rushed to the site after the blast. Emergency has been imposed in hospitals and rescue teams have also reached the area and injured persons are being shifted to a nearby hospital.

According to initial reports, several police personnel sustained injuries in the bomb blast and nearby buildings were also damaged after the explosion.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned blasts in Counter Terrorism Department Police Station Kabal, Swat and reiterated that law enforcing agencies and police personnel would completely eradicate the curse of terrorism.

Expressing deep grief and sorrow over the loss of lives, Shehbaz Sharif expressed his sympathies with the bereaved families and prayed for the high ranks of the Shuhada. The PM prayed for the speedy recovery of the wounded and directed for the provision of all medical treatment to the wounded. He also sought a report from the relevant officials over the sad incident. The Prime Minister said that the nation saluted the sacrifices rendered by Shuhada.
